    Back from Mount Athos...

I am on the way home and stopped to check email and such and figured I would make one quick post. Mount Athos was wonderful and soon I will post a little something about the trip I took and the monasteries I saw. Out of this world for sure!!!

For now I am on the way back to 'home' to get some sleep. Take care. I will post pictures by the way when I get back to the States and get my film developed.

PS: Seraphim thanks for the good wishes the trip was a true blessing and then some.

    The OLYMPIC FLAME...

I just saw the Olympic flame enter Thessaloniki on its way to Athens.  I didn't have my camera but I should be able to get a shot of it leaving for Athens tommorow.  Still though it was a very cool site to see.  If I get pictures I will post them when I get home.  Stay tuned...

    ΑΓΙΟΥ ΟΡΟΥΣ...

Well, I made my arrangements to goto the Holy Mountain today.  I will visit a few monasteries over the course of next week.  I couldn't resist the opportunity with such a place being so close.  I probally won't be back till Sunday and I will catch up on my email and maybe put a post here.  I will keep all of you in my prayers and I ask that you do the same for me.

    God bless.

Brightly polished shoes & big white beards...

I met an old Monk the other day with brightly shinned shoes, the hand shine not the fake stuff.  It reminded me of when I was in the military.  I stood easily 2 ft. taller than him.

His friend, or brother monk, was a large portly gentleman who had a big bright white beard.  The two of them made quite a pair.

Both were very pious and very kind men.

    Men of God...

I hope that men of God truly shudder at the mission that they have been charged with, and have undertaken.  I hope that men of God always have love in their hearts and charity in their hands, along with prayer in their minds.

I hope that men of God love others more than they love themselves.  I hope they pray for others more than they pray for themselves.  I hope that men of God are always protected from on high from the darkness that holds sway over this world.

Such men are our leaders, our guides, our consolers, and our light to the end of the tunnel.

May men of God always be these things and more...

    Laundry...

You know this is one of those chores in life I really don't like. The monastery I am staying at here in Greece has washing machines wich I thought is a good thing but then I notcied, that there were no dryers...? Ah yes, someone says to me pointing to a clothes line.

Now laundry by itself is bad enough, but going through the hassle of putting it on a line is well not fun. :-(

Note to self open dryer business in Greece.

    Weekends in Greece

Weekends in Greece are much more quite than compared to the USA. I guess learning how to slow down a little bit is a good thing but its a little boring some times to if ya know what I mean. When you are used to a quicker pace, and I am, it is a bit of a system shock. Oh well, non evlogimeno.

I don't think I will be going to the Holy Mountain on this trip my schedule is kinda hectic and all. But I will be coming back so there isn't anything to worry about. I like what I have seen since I have been here and it is actually nice to be over seas again. The last time I was over seas I was in a combat-zone. Now as memorable as that was this is a little more pleasurable. I also forgot how different the rest of the world is from the USA. I know that sounds arrogant and please forgive me but I think people all over the world are guilty of that. The idea that everybody is like you and where you come from.

Things are going well and I am enjoying myself and this is turning out to be the best vacation I have ever had! Well, I will post in a few days or so. God bless and keep you all!

    Mount Athos...

I am going to be looking into going to Mount Athos but I am not sure when. I have to get a blessing from the Metropolitan I am staying with and then I have to go to the office in Thessaloniki and set something up if it is okay.

Things here have been interesting and fun to say the least. I have decided that Greek bus drivers get the best driver award for any place I have been in the world, and I have been around a little bit. Greece is such a lovely country but it is a traffic cops nightmare or dream if he likes to write tickets. :)

I am not sure why that part of this country fascinates me so much but it does. HA! hA! I have been to a number of churches in the city of Thessaloniki and they truly are magnificent. I will try to post some pictures when I get home. One last thing to anyone going over seas...before you leave the US buy film there it is expensive here and I forgot about that fact. Well I will post something soon. God Bless.

    Greece is good...

Well I made it to Greece and things went well on the flight over. The jet lag was a pain but it is settling down now. I am at an Internet cafe, which is a really neat thing, and I am catching up on emails to friends and what not. I will post something here in the near future. So far this has been a great trip and is only getting better. Keep me in your prayers and you all are in mine.
