Controversial group plans to picket funeral of Clovis soldier
Last Update: 08/12/2006 6:03:31 PM

CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - Members of a Kansas church group, which has made headlines for protesting at military funerals nationwide, will appear Monday in Clovis at the funeral of Sgt. Leroy Segura Jr.
The fundamentalist Westboro Baptist Church has outraged mourning communities by showing up at soldiers’ funerals with anti-homosexual signs. Members claim God is allowing soldiers to be killed because the United States tolerates homosexuals.
Clovis Mayor David Lansford says such protests are inappropriate.
The 23-year-old Segura died August Fourth from injuries sustained when his military vehicle overturned in Habbaniyah, Iraq.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clovis. Burial will take place in Fort Sumner.

Is it live or is it Memorex...
The real thing isn't good enough for us to remember; now we need to put it on the big screen and add a soundtrack. Most recently, film director Oliver Stone, has remade the event with the release of the movie, World Trade Center. Now I don't really want to 'knock' Oliver Stone on my blog. He is a good director and has made many good movies; many of which I have seen and I like quite a bit.
However, on my local Fox news station, the station has been replaying a clip of an interview where Mr. Stone says, "...there is a lot of power in this film..." (I am paraphrasing here but I believe these are the right words.) The film he wrote centers on the following:
This docudrama tells the story of Port Authority policemen John McLoughlin (Nic Cage) and Will Jimeno (Michael Pena), who were trapped in the rubble of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, after they went in to help people escape.
If you remember the day of 911 these two officers went in to the Trade Center and it collapsed on them; later they were the last two to be found alive. My question is this, why do we find a need to cut to the Memorex version, when the real thing is what holds power? The real drama seems to never be enough. The image of those towers falling was replayed so many times, on ever possible station, including the radio, with a play by play, if you remember right, that the image is permanently burned in to my mind. One time was too many, to view that scene; I can’t even guess at how many times those images were replayed. I will never forget how they were hit and how they fell. Yet that doesn't seem to be enough for us in society today. There was no soundtrack playing on the day of September 11th, there was no slow motion, there was no Memorex, it was most certainly live!
What does it say about us as a society when we must reinvent the truth? I guess there are many answers to that question. I also suspect that many people will go to view this movie and see it as somehow, cathartic. I seem to think, and I realize the film isn't out yet --and no I won't be going to see it, we need to reinvent the truth to somehow romanticize and remember something that should have never been forgotten in the first place. Personally, I think it says that we are doing a grave disservice to those who died in the attack as well as, a grave disservice to ourselves; because no matter where you were that day if you are an American you are a victim. Many would say that if you had even an ounce of humanity you were a victim; I subscribe to both of these opinions. Maybe if we were able to remember the real version as opposed to the Memorex version, we would be able to find the strength to prevent such tragic events in the future. Until we find this strength as a society, I think such tragedies will continue to occur because of our own short sightedness and our skewed view of reality. May God have mercy upon us all!

Some questions worth asking...
Do we really need as much detail as we have seen on Mel Gibson arrest for DUI?
--I don't think so. I don't think so even if he made the remarks he is accused of making. That is something that should be settled in a different venue then prime-time news. Watch an episode of COPS(tm) and that is about as much coverage as I think the arrest should get.
Do women really need a morning after pill; which basically is what the liberal-leftists have always wanted, abortion-on-demand. Is it murder or is it just a fetus?
--First of all, the story should be, that our society has degenerated to the point, where we have become sick enough to even have conceived of the idea this drug. What more do people want? Do you realize that minors can have abortions and don't have to inform their families and the doctors can't tell the parents --so much for HIPPA laws, yeh right, what a sham! No they want to have the Kill Pill, sold over the counter, so women can screw at will with no thought of the consequences. I am not letting men off the hook here, if they kept it in their pants, a lot of this could be solved as well. But don't worry, now neither men nor women, have to take responsibility because we have the Kill Pill. Lord Have Mercy! Make no mistake it is most certainly murder that is going on, plain and simple. Here is an experiment for you to try:
Most of you have a family member or close friend who is pregnant, that is pregnant in a happy way (i.e. the mother wants the baby), so approach that woman and talk to her about her, fetus. Yes that is right I said fetus don't use the word baby! I am guessing, you will not get many more words out of your mouth, before you are told where to go. Women who want children call their unborn child, baby, women who don't want their unborn child call it a fetus to dehumanize the poor child.
Congrats to all the women out there you have really arrived...NOT! Oh and guys you have stood by and allowed it to happen because of your own stupidy!
Israel and the war in Lebanon; and the international calls for cease fire.
--I have a question. What if Israel, or for that matter Lebanon, started calling for a cease fire in Iraq and Afghanistan and demanded that the U.S stop the fighting? What would happen? Hmmm…I am inclined to say…nothing! If Israel has the right to defend herself, doesn’t she have the right to decide, when it is time enough to end the hostile action. The U.S is going to get egg on its face (in a really bad way) if it keeps trying to interfere in this situation. If we really want to end the problem, I suggest taking care of Iran once and for all.
Has it really been that long since September 11, 2001 that we need movies to remind us of the event?
--I don't think so; the images of those buildings falling and the pentagon and the field in Penn. are burned into my memory for all time. Enough said!
These are just a few of the things in the news which are really irking me of late.

Driving While Anti-Semitic

Instead of getting angry over Mel Gibson's bigotry, let's look at the real moral outrage: drunk driving.

Aug. 2, 2006 - Let me pause from the trivial issues of the moment like the war in Israel and Lebanon, the slaughter in Darfur and the sectarian violence in Iraq to consider the defining moral issue of the moment: Mel Gibson's anti-Semitic and sexist and belligerent comments after his DUI arrest in Malibu.
Driving under the influence of anti-Semitism is not nearly as bad as driving under the influence of alcohol. My Grandpa Leo was killed by a drunk driver in Milwaukee just before my bar mitzvah, and just last week my nephew Josh was nearly killed by a drunk driver in Beverley Hills. The danger of wounding people with words is not nearly as important as the possibility of killing someone with a car. Yet all the media outrage is about is bigotry, not the real outrage: drunk driving.
